A slightly rare, fragrant air plant, Tillandsia retrorsa is native to Brazil and often found growing in large colonies:
- Foliage: Stiff, 25-30cm long, recurved, dense trichome leaves along a caulescent stem
- Inflorescence: It produces a panicle inflorescence with violet or purple flowers
- Fragrance: Known for having a strong, pleasant scent similar to Tillandsia duratii
| Size | Inches |
| X-Large |
2-3" stem, 5-6" height |
Key features:
- Similar in appearance to Tillandsia duratii, but lacks curly leaf tips and was historically confused with Tillandsia arhiza
- Forms clusters and extensive colonies, often featuring dark brown roots in younger specimens which may disappear in mature plants
- Size: Mature specimens are quite variable and generally reach 8-12" in height and 6-12" in diameter. Some stems may reach up to 20". Colonies will exceed these measurements.
Care tip: Prefers bright, indirect light with some direct morning sun. Mist 2-3 times per week (more in hot/dry conditions) or soak once a week. Ensure leaves dry within a few hours; provide excellent air circulation and warm to intermediate temperatures.
Ideal for: Collectors, Fragrance Lovers, Small-space Growers, and Non-soil Gardeners
