Aechmea blanchetiana

Add a burst of tropical brilliance to your garden or collection with the Aechmea blanchetiana. This attractive bromeliad is native to the Atlantic Coast of Brazil, where it thrives in the restingas vegetation along the coast from Bahia south to Espírito Santo. It is a highly versatile plant that can grow both terrestrially (in the ground) or epiphytically (on trees), making it perfect for a wide range of landscaping and indoor applications.

This plant is a true chameleon; its long, strap-shaped leaves form a dense, vase-shaped rosette. The foliage color ranges from green to reddish-gold, orange-gold, or vivid orange, depending on the amount of sunlight it receives. In sunnier conditions, it produces a brilliant orange display, while in shadier spots, the foliage is a more subtle green.

The real spectacle, however, is its magnificent inflorescence. In the spring, a tall, erect flower stalk emerges from the center of the rosette, rising high above the foliage. This multi-branched panicle features long-lasting, showy red bracts with striking yellow tips. While the individual yellow flowers are small and short-lived, the colorful bracts remain for weeks, making it an incredible focal point.

*Plants are variable in the color and you may not receive an orange plant, but a green to yellow to orange. Pots are for single plants only - plants with pups are sold in store only.

Care Instructions: For the best foliage color, provide full sun to bright, filtered light. In shadier conditions, the leaves will become a deeper green. This plant is drought tolerant and should be planted in well-drained soil. For container plants, water only when the soil is dry. It is crucial to keep the central "vase" (rosette) of the plant filled with water for optimal health. Flush the tank periodically to prevent stagnation.
