The calavera—the decorated skull—is the heart of Día de los Muertos. Not a spooky image, but a joyful one: flowers, color, and pattern used to honor the people we've lost and to remind us that remembrance can be beautiful rather than grim. These 5-inch decal skulls carry that spirit, and then a small live air plant grows out of the top of each one.
Three designs:
· Pink — A pink base with silver teeth, blue flower-shaped eyes, and a scattered scene of varied flowers across the surface. The softest of the three.
· Tricolor — Teal at the crown, yellow through the middle, blue at the base. Gold teeth, blue flower eyes, and a floral scene worked across all three bands.
· Linework — White with silver teeth and blue flower eyes, finished with a scene of black line-drawn flowers. Graphic, high-contrast, the most modern of the set.
Each skull stands about 5 inches tall, with a small Tillandsia mounted at the top center of the head—so the plant reads as a crown, a bloom, or a final flourish of living color. Air plants are epiphytes: no soil, no roots needed, just a weekly soak and good light. Nothing else to maintain.
What you're getting:
· Height: Approximately 5 inches
· Finish: Decal-decorated ceramic skull, three designs
· Plant: One small, grower's-choice Tillandsia mounted at the top center of the head
· Purchase options: $8.95 each, or the set of three for $22.95
Good to Know:
· The air plant varies. Each skull ships with a small Tillandsia selected by our grower. It may not match the photos exactly, but it will always be small and suited to the scale of the piece.
· Decals, so expect hand-finish character. Minor variation in placement and finish is normal.
· Air plants are alive. A Tillandsia blooms once, then produces "pups" (offsets) before the original plant gradually declines. That's the natural cycle—and the pups can be removed and mounted elsewhere when you're ready.
· The plant is mounted. To water, hold the skull and dunk just the plant, or mist in place and let it dry completely before setting it back down.
Caring for the Air Plant:
Provide bright, indirect light. A spot near a sunny window but out of harsh direct rays is ideal. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the air plant's leaves. Misting method: Mist thoroughly 2–3 times per week. Never allow water to pool in the base of the plant as this will cause rot. Always let the plant dry completely after watering.
