Hoya cinnamomifolia

Hoya cinnamomifolia, a rare and alluring species that stands out even among other Hoyas. Native to the tropical forests of Java, Indonesia, this vigorous climber is one of the larger members of the Hoya genus.

The plant's name is derived from the resemblance of its foliage to that of the cinnamon tree (Cinnamomum verum). Its large, dark green leaves can grow up to 15 cm (6 inches) long and 6 cm (2.3 inches) wide, featuring prominent, lighter-colored veins that run parallel to the leaf edge. This deeply impressed venation gives the leaves a textured, ribbed appearance that is truly captivating.

The flower display is the highlight of this plant. It produces umbels of 20-30 star-shaped flowers, each featuring a lime green corolla and a bright burgundy, "blood red" corona. The blooms are described as having a captivating fragrance.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect light for optimal growth. A south-facing window is best, but it can adapt to east or west locations. Strong light promotes flowering and enhances leaf texture. Water when the top layer of soil feels dry, allowing the substrate to dry out almost completely between waterings. Hoya cinnamomifolia prefers to be kept on the drier side. A good rule of thumb is to wait until the leaves just begin to pucker slightly before watering. Do not allow the plant to sit in water, as it is susceptible to root rot. Reduce watering frequency in winter.
