Hoya globulosa

Add a rare and tactile beauty to your collection with the Hoya globulosa. This elegant species is celebrated for its large, oval leaves that are thick, leathery, and covered in a soft, velvety fuzz, giving the plant a rich, textural quality that sets it apart from smoother-leaved Hoyas. The foliage is a deep, dark green with prominent lighter veins, creating a striking contrast.

Native to the tropical Himalayas and Southeast Asia, where it grows as an epiphyte in rainforests, Hoya globulosa forms trailing or climbing stems that can reach several meters in length. It grows moderately fast and is well-suited to training on a trellis, hoop, or letting it cascade from a hanging basket.

The real reward comes when it blooms. Hoya globulosa produces umbels of 15–25 small, star-shaped flowers in a loose, globe-like cluster. The blooms are a creamy yellow to pinkish hue and emit a strong, sweet fragrance that fills the room, typically appearing in summer. As with all Hoyas, do not remove the spent flower spurs—new blooms will emerge from the same spot year after year.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect light for optimal growth and flowering. An east, west, or south-facing window is ideal—use a sheer curtain to filter harsh direct sun if needed. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry to the touch. If the Hoya is thirsty, its leaves will wrinkle; if overwatered, leaves will turn yellow, droop, or become mushy. Water more often in bright light and less in lower light.
