Type

Native to the coastal rainforests of southeastern Brazil, Neoregelia concentrica is often called a "tank bromeliad" because of its tightly overlapping leaves and the central structure it forms to hold water. Highly valued by collectors, it has been used to create over 200 hybrids, many which feature more varied and vibrant leaf colors and patterns.

  • Dense, funnel-like rosette form that produces leaves reaching up to 16" long
  • Leaves are strap-shaped with stout, black spines along the margins. They are generally green, but can have dark purple spots or short barring. When about to flower or under high light, leaves turn a vibrant purple
  • Likely a medium to large-sized variety

Care:

  • Bright, indirect light to maintain intense coloration
  • Keep central cup filled with fresh water, changing regularly
  • High humidity (60-80%) to mimic natural epiphytic conditions
  • Minimal fertilization to preserve compact growth and color intensity
