Neoregelia 'Yin' (N. carolinae x N. carcharodon)

Neoregelia 'Yin' (also sold as 'Ying') is an exceptional hybrid created in 1996 by legendary hybridizer Chester Skotak, who crossed Neoregelia carolinae (seed parent) with Neoregelia carcharodon (pollen parent). 'Yin' and its sibling 'Yang' emerged from the same grex as separate seedlings, becoming two of the most recognizable and beloved Neoregelia cultivars in cultivation.

What sets 'Yin' apart is its unforgettable foliage. It forms a very large, mounded rosette that can reach an impressive 24 to 30 inches across. The wide, symmetrically arching leaves feature bold, wide, creamy white margins (albo-marginated) that create a dramatic contrast against the dark green centers. The leaves are gracefully arching with a rose tint and have relatively large, but not sharp spines inherited from its carcharodon parent. In higher light levels, the entire plant takes on a stunning uniform hot pink or ruby blush, making it a true showstopper or centerpiece. 

Care Instructions: Provide bright, filtered light for optimal growth and to encourage the beautiful pink/ruby blush. Morning sun or dappled shade is ideal. Keep the central "tank" of the rosette filled with fresh water. Water the soil/medium when it feels dry to the touch. Change the water regularly to prevent stagnation.
