The Heartleaf Philodendron, perhaps the most popular philodendron sold in commerce today. Native to the tropical forests of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, this evergreen climber is admired for its glossy, heart-shaped leaves that cascade beautifully from hanging baskets or climb up a support.

This fast-growing vine is a member of the Arum family (Araceae). Its bright, glossy, dark green leaves emerge with a subtle bronze tint and can grow up to 4 inches long on juvenile plants, increasing to an impressive 12 inches on mature specimens.

In its natural habitat, it can climb up to 20 feet, making it one of the few "climbing" houseplants. Indoors, it is typically seen trailing from a pot or trained up a trellis, reaching a length of 3 to 13 feet. Occasionally, mature indoor plants may produce greenish-white arum-family flowers, though this is rare.

This plant is renowned for being incredibly forgiving, thriving with minimal attention and surviving in a variety of conditions.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect light for the best growth and to maintain vibrant foliage. An east- or north-facing window is ideal. It can tolerate low light, but growth may become spindly. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away. Keep the soil slightly moist but never soggy, as this plant is susceptible to root rot. Reduce watering in the winter months when growth slows.
