Tillandsia ‘Royale’. This registered hybrid, created from a cross of Tillandsia balbisiana and Tillandsia velutina, brings together the best qualities of both parents into one spectacular plant.
From its balbisiana parent, ‘Royale’ inherits gracefully curving, often twisted leaves that give the plant a sculptural, flowing appearance. From its velutina parent, it gains a wonderfully soft, velvety texture and the ability to blush in stunning shades of coral-pink and pastel red when coming into bloom. The plant grows to approximately 12 cm in diameter and 20 cm in height, forming an elegant rosette of lime-green to silvery-grey leaves with dense trichomes (scales) that give it a soft, frosted appearance.
When it blooms, ‘Royale’ produces a short inflorescence, with the center leaves blushing a beautiful coral-pink. From this colorful display emerge multiple purple, tubular flowers, creating a truly breathtaking show. The hybrid is sometimes known to clump, adding to its appeal for collectors.
