Tillandsia ionantha ‘Peanuts’ (Tillandsia ionantha v. stricta f. fastigata)

Tillandsia ionantha v. stricta f. fastigata. This is not your average Sky Plant air plant. This rare form, sometimes affectionately called “Peanuts,” was formally described by Koide and is a fascinating variant of Tillandsia ionantha var. stricta.

Native to the forests of southwest Mexico, this form is highly distinctive. According to Koide, it “appears randomly… red throughout its life… instead of growing into an open rosette, its leaves stay erect, close together and very tight”. The result is a tiny, perfectly formed plant that is almost always blushing a lovely shade of red, creating a striking visual impact even when not in bloom.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect or filtered light for optimal growth. Stronger, consistent light will enhance the red pigmentation. Spray or dunk the plant twice a week, allowing it to dry within 6-8 hours. During hotter and drier months, you can soak the plant for up to 4 hours to rehydrate as necessary.
