Tillandsia 'Joy Boy' (T. seleriana x T. schiedeana)

This exceptional hybrid is the result of a cross between two very different species: the sculptural, bulbous Tillandsia seleriana and the robust, hardy Tillandsia schiedeana. The combination of these two completely different parents makes for a fascinating and beautiful plant.

The plant features a striking pseudobulbous base, reminiscent of its seleriana parent, with upright, channeled leaves that have a slightly scurfy texture. It forms a beautiful, fast-growing rosette of green, hairy leaves. This hybrid is a "pseudo-bulbous" Tillandsia, a group known for their unique, sculptural forms.

When it blooms, typically in summer, ‘Joy Boy’ produces a short, compound inflorescence with several red-pink bracts. From these colorful bracts emerge vibrant yellow, tubular flowers. The combination of the red-pink bracts and yellow blooms creates a truly stunning display.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect light. A very forgiving hybrid, it responds well to both excessive and a lack of water. Generally this plant can be watered 1-3x weekly by thoroughly misting or soaking up to 20 minutes once a week.
