Discover the delicate charm of the Tillandsia loliacea, a true miniature treasure in the world of air plants. This small but mighty species belongs to the subgroup Diaphoranthema and is native to the subtropical and semi-arid regions of Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees and rocks at altitudes of up to 1,500 meters.

The loliacea forms dense, cushion-like tufts of upright, silvery grey-green leaves that are only about 2–3 cm (1 inch) long. Over time, it produces many side shoots, quickly creating beautiful, moss-like clusters. This species is self-pollinating and readily forms seed pods, often dispersing its seeds onto surrounding surfaces.

Although the plant itself is tiny, it produces a surprisingly tall, slender inflorescence that is at least twice the height of the plant. The bloom spike is green and upright, featuring a few small but vibrant, bright yellow flowers.

Care Instructions: Provide very bright, filtered light for optimal growth. A position under a tree, verandah, deck, or in a shadehouse is ideal. We do not recommend keeping this plant in low-light indoor conditions. It requires bright light and good airflow. Water by thoroughly misting 2-3x weekly or dunking the plant in a bowl of water once a week for 10–20 minutes, then shaking off excess water.
