Tillandsia myosura is a distinctive species of air plant known for its unique, mouse-tail-like appearance:
- Foliage: The leaves are covered in dense, silver-white trichomes, are very thin, needle-like, and taper to a fine point. They are stiff, but curve slightly.
- Inflorescence: Produces a slender, bare scape that rises well above the foliage. The spike is simple or slightly compound with a few small bracts. The bracts are usually green or reddish, flowers are tubular, yellow-white, and emerge sequentially.
- Fragrance: Often described as sweet or vanilla-like, usually noticeable in the morning
| Size | Inches |
| Medium | 3"-4" |
Key features:
- Growing as an epiphyte in dry habitats from Peru to Uruguay and Argentina, it is much more resistant to drying out than green-leaved air plants thanks to its dense, silver trichomes.
- Pure hardiness - can tolerate cooler nights and handles higher light levels than many Tillandsia
- Growth Pattern: Grows as a caulescent rosette. Instead of staying in a tight ball, it forms an elongated stem over time, with leaves spiraling up it, resembling a mouse's tail
- Size: Mature specimens typically reach 10-15cm (4"-6") in height, though the stem can lengthen with age
Care tip: Air flower is non-negotiable. Dry upside down or place on its side to dry after watering and water quickly. Plants prefer misting or quick dunks (2-3 times weekly). Avoid long soaks and provide bright, indirect light to gentle direct, morning sun.
Ideal for: Minimalist Keepers, Forgetful Waterers, Fragrance Lovers, Small-space Dwellers, but not for terrarium lovers or high-humidity bathrooms.
