Tillandsia oaxacana is a stunning, low-maintenance air plant from Mexico:
- Foliage: It features soft, silver-green leaves covered in fuzzy trichomes. The leaves curve downward, forming an open, symmetrical rosette.
- Inflorescence: It produces a unique, pineapple-shaped bract (often a pink or salmon color) from which, small vibrant violet or lavender flowers emerge.
| Size | Inches |
| Large | 5"-6" |
Key features:
- The central inflorescence is a distinct, compact spike that last several weeks, while the individual purple flowers open sequentially over days
- A "fuzzy" silvery coating of trichomes is extremely dense, giving the plant a soft, velvety feel. These trichomes are high efficient at absorbing moisture from humidity and brief rains
- Growth Pattern: Rosette-shaped, with soft, recurved leaves that spread openly. It does not form a bulbous or tank-like center. Slow to moderate grower, but forms a small cluster over time
- Size: Mature specimens typically reach 10-15cm (4"-6") in height. The rosette usually spans 20-30cm (8-12") in diameter.
Care tip: Water frequently in bright, warm, dry rooms. Soak up to 30 minutes weekly. In humid or cool conditions, reduce to every 10-14 days. Drying is critical within 2-4 hours after watering. Curled, rolled leaves signal it is thirsty.
Ideal for: Small-space Dwellers, Creative Decorators, Frequent Travelers, Plant Beginners, and Rewarding Projects
