'Oh My Goodness' is the perfect name for this Tillandsia with its stunning transition to an intense blush during bloom. This air plant is a cross between Tillandsia caput-medusae and Tillandsia ionantha Fuego:

  • Foliage: Unlike a standard ionantha, the leaves are slightly longer, grooved, and recurivng. They emerge from a distinct base then flare outward. Leaves, at maturity, will change color from a deep magenta to hot pink, while the outer older leaves typically stay a grey-green.
  • Inflorescence: A short, simple, spike-like scape rises just above the plant. It is typically pink or reddish to match the blush leaves. The blooms are tubular and violet-purple, emerging sequentially from the spike.

Medium (bloom ended) 3"-4"

Key features:

  • High trichome coverage means it prefers brighter light and drying quickly between waterings. Because the leaves are so dense at the base, water may pool and rot the center if the plant is left upright after watering.
  • Tillandsia 'Oh My Goodness' has a stunning contrast between the hot pink leaves and deep purple flowers. The color blush on the foliage can last for weeks.
  • Growth Pattern: Visualize the pattern of a tight rosette to curling tentacles to a pink center then purple flowers. Juvenile stage starts as a small, tight, bulbous rosette of leaves that are shorter and more upright. Around years 2-4, the base becomes pronounced, leaves lengthen and recurve outward, and shortly after , inner leaves will gradually shift from a grey-green to magenta/pink.
  • Size: Mature specimens typically reach 12cm (4.7") in height. The rosette usually spans 14cm (5.5") in width.

Care tip: Submerge in water for 10-20 minutes, 1 time per week. Alternatively, mist thoroughly 3-4 times per week. Always shake off excess water. A plant that is thirsty will display tightly curled leaves, feel crispy, or will lose their gray sheen. Bright indirect light is ideal and direct morning sun encourages the blush and healthy growth. Requires excellent airflow to dry quickly.

Ideal for: Someone who wants a living sculpture, not just a plant. Someone who enjoys a hands-on routine-misting or soaking several times a week-but is disciplined enough to shake and invert the plant afterward. A grower who wants a "reward" plant. A compact plant lover.
