Tillandsia ‘Ragtime’. This exceptional hybrid, created from a cross of Tillandsia brachycaulos (formerly known as abdita) and Tillandsia concolor ‘Red Prince’, brings together the best traits of both parents into one spectacular plant.

‘Ragtime’ grows into an impressive specimen, typically reaching 10-16 inches) wide and 5 inches tall, with some specimens exceeding. Its foliage consists of numerous soft, lime green leaves with minimal trichomes, giving it a smooth, vibrant appearance. The leaves are slightly recurving, inheriting the graceful form of Brachycaulos with the size and stiffness of Concolor.

The true magic of ‘Ragtime’ is revealed when it blooms. Unlike many air plants that only blush at the tips, the entire plant turns a brilliant, peachy red to fiery red. This full-plant transformation makes it one of the most eye-catching Tillandsia in any collection. The flowers emerge as dense clusters of purple tubular blooms, produced directly from the growing point without a tall extending stalk—a trait inherited from its Brachycaulos parent.

Care Instructions: Provide bright, indirect or filtered light for optimal growth. It can handle some direct light, especially morning or filtered sun. Stronger light encourages a more intense red blush when blooming. Spray or dunk the plant twice a week, allowing it to dry within 6-8 hours. Soak monthly for up to 4 hours to rehydrate as necessary.
