A relatively new species of air plant from Bolivia, Tillandsia santiagoensis was formally identified and named in 2020:
- Foliage: It forms a dense, symmetrical rosette that resembles a large Tillandsia ionantha. Leaves are broadly triangular, velvety, and white to grayish looking.
- Inflorescence: Typically spring to early summer, a tall, branched spike rises above the foliage with yellow floral bracts and small tubular flowers.
- Fragrance: Flowers emit a delicate, pleasant perfume
| Size | Inches |
| Medium | 3"-4" |
Key features:
- Plants are endemic to Bolivia (Serrania de Santiago), growing on rocks in full sun at about 850m elevation.
- Santiagoensis has also been known as Tillandsia 'Chicitos' or Tillandsia aff. streptocarpa 'Sukk weiss' and 'Sukk grun' before formal classification
- Size: Mature specimens typically reach 10-15cm (4"-6") in height and width.
Care tip: Prefers bright, indirect light with some direct morning sun. Mist or soak 2-4 times per week (more in hot/dry conditions). Ensure leaves dry within a few hours; provide excellent air circulation and warm to intermediate temperatures.
Ideal for: Collectors, Small-space Growers, Fragrance Lovers, and Non-soil Gardeners
