The Tillandsia ‘Tawny Yellow’ is a captivating air plant that originated as a chance hybrid in the collection of Rolly Reilly. While its seed parent is the famously fragrant T. crocata, the pollen parent is believed to be the slender, purple-flowered T. mallemontii. This serendipitous cross has resulted in a plant that combines the best traits of both parents.

Care Instructions:

· Light: Provide bright, indirect, or filtered sunlight. An east or west-facing window is ideal indoors, while a spot under a tree, on a verandah, or in a shadehouse is perfect outdoors. Avoid harsh, direct midday sun.
· Water: This hybrid appreciates a bit more water than some other air plants. As a general rule, water every 2-3 days in a hot position, or once a week in a dark, humid environment. This can be done by misting or by dunking the plant in room-temperature water for 10-20 minutes. After watering, always shake off excess water and ensure the plant dries completely within 6-8 hours to prevent rot.
· Air Circulation: Excellent air circulation is vital for this thin-leaved species. Good airflow helps the plant dry out properly between waterings.
· Mounting: This plant grows best when mounted upside down or attached to a solid, non-water-retentive substrate like timber or cork bark. Use coated wire, fishing line, or an adhesive (like silicone or hot glue) to attach it. Do not cover the base of the plant with moss or other materials that can trap moisture and cause rot.
· Fertilizer: For best results, fertilize your air plants once a fortnight in the warmer months and once a month in winter. Use a dedicated air plant or bromeliad fertilizer, applying one or two sprays after watering.
· Temperature: Can withstand low temperatures but must be protected from frost.
